Fior di Loto Martini

By Master Chef Gianluca Deiana Abis

History

The Fior di Loto Martini draws inspiration from Italy’s rich tradition of floral liqueurs and infusions. While the lotus flower is not native to Italy, the Italian love for floral notes in spirits—like St-Germain (elderflower) and Rosolio di Rose—makes this a harmonious addition to the cocktail repertoire. The result is a delicate, aromatic martini with a hint of sweetness, perfect for those who appreciate subtle elegance in their drinks.

Ingredients

  • 45ml (1.5 oz) Premium Italian Gin (Malfy Gin Rosa or Gin Mare)

  • 15ml (½ oz) St-Germain (elderflower liqueur) or Rosolio di Rose (rose liqueur)

  • 10ml (⅓ oz) Dry Vermouth (Martini Riserva Speciale Ambrato or Cocchi Americano)

  • 5ml (1 teaspoon) Lotus Syrup (or simple syrup infused with jasmine or chamomile)

  • Ice cubes

  • Edible flower or lemon twist, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Chill the Glass:

    • Place a Martini glass in the freezer for 10 minutes for a perfect chill.

  2. Shake the Drink:

    • Fill a cocktail shaker with ice.

    • Add the gin, St-Germain or Rosolio, dry vermouth, and lotus syrup.

    • Shake gently for about 15 seconds to combine and chill.

  3. Strain & Serve:

    • Strain into the chilled Martini glass, ensuring a clear and crisp presentation.

  4. Garnish:

    • For an elegant touch, garnish with an edible flower (like a pansy or violet) or a lemon twist for a hint of citrus.

Perfect Pairing – Italian Aperitivo Companion

Carpaccio di Zucchine con Parmigiano Reggiano – Thinly sliced zucchini dressed in lemon, olive oil, and topped with shavings of Parmigiano Reggiano makes for a light and delicate pairing, enhancing the floral and herbal notes of the Fior di Loto Martini.

Chef Tip:

To enhance the floral aroma, rim the glass with a mixture of finely ground dried rose petals and sugar, creating a fragrant and visually stunning presentation.

Elegant, aromatic, and utterly refined, the Fior di Loto Martini brings a touch of floral sophistication to your aperitivo hour. Salute! 🌸🍸
